Spark One privacy policy

Spark One is a TV app for Android TV, Google TV and Android phones. It plays our own Spark channels: our news bulletins and ads, public-domain films and shows from the Internet Archive, and free-licence music from Wikimedia Commons.

Information we collect

Spark One has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics and no tracking. We do not collect, sell or share any personal information.

Crash reports. If the app closes because of an error, it sends us a crash report so we can fix the problem: the error and where in the app it happened, the app's version, the device model (for example "Google Chromecast") and the Android version. It does not include your name, account, IP address, location, what you watched or any identifier of you or your device. Reports are kept in our Google Firebase project and are never shared or sold.

Gold subscription

Gold is sold and billed by Google Play. Your payment details go to Google, never to us. The app only asks Google Play whether your Google account has an active Gold subscription, and remembers the answer on your device.

Ads

Some channels show short ads between programmes: our own and our sponsors'. They are ordinary videos in the channel's schedule. No ad network is used, and nothing about you is used to choose or count them.

Weather

The top bar shows the local temperature. To find your area, the app asks GeoJS (geojs.io) for the approximate city of your internet connection's IP address, then asks Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for the weather there. The app does not use your device's GPS or location permission, and neither answer is stored or sent to us. GeoJS and Open-Meteo see your IP address as part of the request, and their own privacy policies apply.

What stays on your device

• Your favourite channels, your last watched channel and your layout and theme choices.
• The channels' schedules, so they start quickly.

These settings are saved only on your device. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes them.

Network use

The app downloads the channels' schedules from tv.bulkbazaar.ca and plays the videos from where they are kept: our own files (tv.bulkbazaar.ca and GitHub), the Internet Archive (archive.org) and Wikimedia Commons. Those servers see your IP address as part of each request, as with any website. We do not log it.

Children

Spark One is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
